Holiday of a life time

Janet has been filming with Len Goodman and Anton Du Beke.
Did you see Holiday of a Life Time this month? It’s been so hard not to tell everyone over the last 10 months but last may we did some filming in the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens here in Blackpool, Below are some pictures of the day.

Len Goodman, Anton du Beck with Janet and Edith

Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman, he of the catch phrase ” Well i’ll pickle me walnuts” is the host of Holiday of a Life Time and each week invites celebrity guests to reminisce about one of their favourite childhood holiday location within the United Kingdom and Len also meets with local historians and residents to get an insight into how the places have changed over the decades .

The travel to Blackpool in a vintage coach, similar to the one Anton would have taken on the journey from Sevenoaks in 1981 for a dancing competition. The pair tuck into the food Anton loved from back in the day, take a ride on the vintage Blackpool trams, and visit the winter gardens, amusement arcades and of course the Tower.

Len’s comments on the show in Blackpool with Anton Du Beke and there choice of destination.
“Well, I would have preferred it if he’d chosen Sevenoaks because it’s only two miles up the road from me! [laughs] But of course as far as ballroom dancing is concerned, Blackpool is like Wimbledon is to tennis or Wembley is to football, so to go back and go up the tower it was terrific. We were trying to relive Anton’s first dance competition there in 1981 so we found a couple of ladies to dance with in the Winter Gardens!”

There  “couple of ladies” were my self and Enid Hodgson, I had a lovely time, as I’m sure Enid did at the Winter Gardens and I got to dance with Anton and Enid with Len.

Where is Sanya?

It is  6,065 miles from Sanya to Blackpool

Sanya is on the Southern coast of the Island of Hainan It is renowned for its tropical climate and has emerged as one of China’s popular tourist destinations.

Blackpool is on the west cost of the UK  It rose to prominence as a major centre of tourism in England when a railway was built in the 1840s connecting it to the industrialised regions of Northern England.

Sanya enjoys nearly 300 days of sunlight every year, which is the longest in China, and thus dubbed “the Sun City.”

Blackpool has, like all of the UK, a temperate maritime climate Thus the same cool summer, frequent overcast skies, and small annual temperature range is typical.

Sanya has a population of around 685,000 inhabitants living in an area of 740 square miles.

Blackpool has a population of around 142,065 inhabitants living in an area of 13.4 square miles.

Sanya is home to the largest gold and jade Buddha statue, Nan Shan “Gold and Jade Bodhisattva Guanyin”, in the world.

Blackpool is home to the world’s largest mirror ball situated on the promenade of Blackpool’s South Shore
